2017 Public Programs

The Rick St. Croix School Of Goaltending offers four and five day programs in 2017. We offer both Goalie Focused and Combined Goalie & Defensemen programs.

In the Combined Goalie & Defensemen Program, goalies and defensemen train both apart and together to enhance the learning experience.

Goalie and Defenseman Aug 8 - Aug 11 at Woodland Arena, Vermilion Bay, Ont.

Registration Fee: $499.00 + GST

Goalie Program

This is a full day program that is intended to provide a complete overview to those wanting to become a better goaltender. This program covers mental and physical preparation and builds a strong foundation on the areas of balance, angles, rebound control, save selection and save recovery.

This program will challenge goaltenders 7-16 years of age and will increase your knowledge and love of the game.

Each 5.5 hour day consists of the following:

  • 3 hours of ice time
  • 1.5 hours of dry land training - fundamentals will be stressed both on and off ice. Drills that concentrate on post to post movement, stick awareness, rebound control, save selection, agility and angles
  • 1 hour of classroom - classroom sessions are organized periods of learning including theory, chalk talks and question and answer
  • A windup party with awards and prizes is scheduled for the final day of the program

You will be leaving with a game plan for the upcoming season.

Defenseman Programs

This full day program is designed for anyone that wants to learn the art of playing defence at a competitive level. Rick will be joined by his son, Christopher (former Manitoba Moose player) for these sessions!

Each 5.5 hour day consists of the following:

  • 3 hours of ice per day
  • 1.5 hours of dry land training per day
  • 1 hour of classroom per day

Areas of focus in this program include:

  • how to work with your partner and goaltender
  • retrieving pucks on dump ins / break-outs
  • joining the rush
  • neutral zone regroups
  • angling / stapling / puck protection / good stick / shooting lanes
  • make better decisions in 1 on 1, 2 on 1 and 3 and 1 situations
  • skill development in skating, passing, shooting and containment
  • game awareness and mental preparation
  • Use of the fitLight System

Elite Goalie Program Aug 14 - Aug 18 at Southdale Arena, Winnipeg

Registration Fee: $650.00 + GST

This will be a 5 day, 27.5 hour program for male and female goalies ages 14 and up. Program outline is as follows:

  • 3 hours on ice daily – one hour of crease management and puck handling and two hours on ice goaltender drills with shooters
  • 1.5 hours daily off ice with fitlight training, agility training, hand eye training – pre game warm-up training
  • 1 hour classroom session each day
  • maximum of 12 goalies in each group
  • 2 to 1 max ratio
  • local NHL guest instructors (tbc)will include past students, Calvin Pickard, Chris Dreidger, and my staff Devon Cronin, Justin Paulic, Stuart Fleury, Michael St. Croix
  • I will be on ice and in the classroom for all sessions

BFF goaltender training devices will be used.

Registration Fee: $615.00 + GST

This full day program is designed for anyone that wants to learn the art of playing defence at a competitive level. Rick will be joined by his son, Christopher (former Manitoba Moose player), as well as Peter Stoykewich, defenseman for the Manitoba Moose and NCAA graduate (Colorado College).

Each 5.5 hour day consists of the following:

  • 3 hours of ice per day
  • 1.5 hours of dry land training per day
  • 1 hour of classroom per day

Areas of focus in this program include:

  • how to work with your partner and goaltender
  • retrieving pucks on dump ins / break-outs
  • joining the rush
  • neutral zone regroups
  • angling / stapling / puck protection / good stick / shooting lanes
  • make better decisions in 1 on 1, 2 on 1 and 3 and 1 situations
  • skill development in skating, passing, shooting and containment
  • game awareness and mental preparation
