Private Lessons - In addition to Rick’s Group Programs, he has recently announced a new concept in Goaltending Instruction with the introduction of private and semi-private lessons. For more information on this innovative and personalized approach click here to go to The GoaliePad Website.

TheGoaliePad Annual package (2)02

All programs designed by Rick follow these principles:

  • provide the best personal goaltending instruction available
  • encourage sportsmanship, fair play and a positive attitude towards coaches
  • have fun while learning the skills of the game

Rick’s programs are designed to address the needs of all ages (7 and older) and skill levels (casual, tiered, junior and pro). In fact, Rick currently serves as the Goaltending Coach for the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

A Message From Rick

“The Rick St. Croix School of Goaltending is entering its 20th year of operation. Its hard to believe that so many years have flown by. I am truly grateful for your support over the years.

Back in the late eighties, I was stressing “Stand-Up” as one of my four building blocks. “B” stood for Balance, “A” stood for Angles, “R” stood for Rebound control and “S” stood for Stand-Up. These letters formed our first school word “BARS”. With the introduction of the butterfly technique, slides and recoveries, my “S” word has changed to Save Selection.

Although we all know that the art of goaltending has changed immensely over the past twenty years, I still believe that the four building blocks are the foundation of solid goaltending.

Over the years, our instruction has become more technical. Goaltenders are encouraged to get from point A to point B faster, in control, and in ready position to make a save.

In the late nineties, while working with the Stanley Cup Champion Dallas Stars, I was exposed to some outstanding goaltenders such as Eddie Belfour, Manny Turco and Roman Turek. This experience has allowed me to continue developing my knowledge and understanding of the goaltender position at the highest level

With a better understanding of why goaltenders do what they do, a new breed has been able to become more consistent and confident in shutting down the shooter.

The two biggest areas of change over nearly twenty years that I have been training goalies is in the effectiveness of angle adjustments and depth decisions. Goaltenders are filling the space with a purpose and ultimately forcing the shooter to make better shots.

All goaltenders, male and female are unique individuals with different strengths on and off the ice. It is our goal to work with your giftedness and provide you with the training options and ideas that will enhance your game.

Our program will continue to stress solid fundamental and our school motto “Quality instruction in a caring atmosphere” continues to be our promise to you.

Knowledge is strength. What the eye can see and the mind can believe, the body can achieve!

I hope that your journey as a goaltender will continue to be, or will become part of our journey as well”

              - Rick St. Croix
