Programs

The Rick St. Croix School Of Goaltending offers three, four and five day programs. All programs are designed to be fun and interactive.

  • Male and female
  • A student instructor ration of 3 to 1
  • Ages 7 and up
  • Novice to elite, there is a suitable program for goalies at all stages of their development
  • Classroom instruction includes (not available in all programs)
    • hockey and fitness theory
    • advice on mental preparation
    • tips on nutrition
  • Dry land training includes (not available in all programs)
    • cardio and strength conditioning
    • drills designed specifically for goaltenders
    • tips on maintianing fitness all year around

3 Day Program, Ice Only
This 6 hour program offers an opportunity to review basic fundamentals, fine tune all areas of your game, improve conditioning and prepare for the start or second half of the season.

Areas of focus include

  • movement : load and explode
  • positioning : staying square to the shooter
  • rebound control: you control the shot
  • balance: getting from point a to point b faster and in control
  • stick use: an active stick that has purpose
  • proper use of the butterfly, loading the proper leg save selections

4 Day Basic/Intermediate/Advanced
This 23 hour program is a full day program that is intended to provide a complete overview to those wanting to become a better goaltender. This program covers mental and physical preparation and builds a strong foundation on the areas of balance, angles, rebound control and save selection.

This program will challenge goaltenders 7-16 years of age and will increase your knowledge and love of the game.

Each day consists of the following:

  • 3 hours of ice time
  • 1.5 hours of dry land training - fundamentals will be stressed both on and off ice. Drills that concentrate on post to post movement, stick awareness, rebound control, save selection, agility and angles.
  • 1 hour of classroom - classroom sessions are organized periods of learning including theory, chalk talks and question and answer
  • a windup party with awards and prizes is scheduled for the final day of the program

All five day programs are designed to challenge those athletes looking for a tougher workout

Highlights

  • Build a strong foundation in the areas of balance, angles, rebound control and save selection

5 Day Program, Ice Only

This ten hour on-ice program expands on the three day program and is designed to enhance your overall game readiness. This program is a great tune up for the start of the season and will help get your timing and touch back into your game!

Areas of focus in this program include

  • positioning, attack the new angle, staying square to the shooter
  • movement, edge work, proper load
  • rebound control - strong visual - control of equipment
  • balance - getting set quickly and moving from point a to point b faster
  • stick use
  • fitness - get ready for try outs
  • save selection

5 Day Program, Advanced

This twenty eight hour program will expand from the 4 day program into areas of puck handling, passing, shooting and save selection. The drills are more challenging and higher expectations are placed on the student

Areas of focus in this program include

  • balance, angles, rebound control and save selection
  • save recovery, odd man situations and movement skills
  • puck handling and decision making

5 Day Program, Elite

This twenty eight hour program is our most demanding and will challenge the competitive goalie. Players must be at least 14 years of age. This program is recommended for those goalies preparing for AAA, High School or Junior training camps.

All shooters are AAA, Junior or Pro caliber.

Players should have a high level of expectation in their game, and will face harder shots and more challenging dry land training.

This program includes

  • 3 hours of ice per day
  • 1.5 hours of dry land training per day
  • 1 hour of classroom per day

Areas of focus in this program include

  • balance, positioning, rebound control, movement, save selections, puck handling around the net and odd man situations
  • insights as to what the pros are doing, tips on how to handle certain situations, improving your ability to focus and maintain concentration Will be discussed
  • on-ice movement drills - eyes, head, shoulder and hips rotating together

    • positioning - understand your depth and how to attack the new angle rebound control - big or small, be in control
    • off-ice - agility - foot speed - flexibility
    • stick use - save selections - poke checking - passing
    • puck handling - improve your transition game

    • proper use of the butterfly - loading off the proper leg
